Force Reconnaissance Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) engage targets at a range on the USS Essex (LHD 2), circa 2002.
Force Recon Marines attach to MEUs as a Force Recon Platoon (FRP).
FRPs deploy 3 6-man Reconnaissance Teams on deep reconnaissance and direct action operations.
Force Recon Marines are highly trained, going to many of the same schools as their fellow Marines in Marine Special Operations Battalions.
Force Recon training includes SCUBA diving, parachute training and small boat operations.
