A Maritime Security Response Team (MSRT) boat crew operates a Defender B Class, also known as Response Boat Small (RB-S) boats.

The RB-S is used by United States Coast Guard (USCG) units, including Maritime Security & Safety Teams (MSST) and MSRTs (as shown here).

MSRT's boats are piloted by boat crews from its Tactical Delivery Teams.

The boats, which are made by SAFE Boats international, feature a deep-V, rigid monohull surrounded by a collar of close cell polyethylene foam.

The 25-foot-long hull is made from marine grade aluminum, as is the deck.

The deck is fitted with non-skid material.

The Defender Class B features a cabin, also constructed of marine grade aluminium, which is welded to the hull.

The cabin features 14 windows, including 6 spotter windows in the roof.

Inside the cabin is seating for 4 crew members.

A further 6 passengers can be carried sitting on aft boxes and gunwales.

The top of the cabin features a hinged mount for a radar pod and radio antennas.

This can be folded down for transport in C-130 aircraft.

The RB-S is powered by twin Honda 225 horsepower 4-stroke outboards driving 14x19 Mercury Offshore / Ventura Series propellers.

It has a maximum speed of 46 knots with a cruise speed of 35 knots.

A 105 gallon fuel tank gives the boat a maximum range if 175 nautical miles at 35 knots.

Gun mounts for machine guns are fitted fore and aft.

A M240B 7.62mmx51mm belt-fed medium machine gun is being manned at the bow of the pictured RB-S.

On-board systems include a Furuno 1933C 10.

4 inch Color Radar and Chart Plotter, GP-37 DGPS Receiver, RD-30 Remote Display (displays DGPS, Depth, Water temperature and Heading), PG-1000 Flux Gate Compass Transducer and ARC Remote Control.
