Force Recon Marines with the assault element of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU)'s Maritime Raid Force conduct visit board search & seizure (VBSS) drills. The training includes methods for seizing key areas of a pirate-held vessel, securing hostages and hostiles and gathering intelligence. The Maritime Raid Force is a MEU's organic maritime interdiction force, capable of counter-piracy and counter-terrorism operations. They can also strike targets on land and carry out tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel (TRAP) operations. The MRF typically consists of an assault element provided by the attached Force Recon Platoon, a reconnaissance element provided by the Battalion Recon Platoon and a security element provided by Marines with the Battalion Landing Team.
