A U.S. Marine with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (22nd MEU) Force Reconnaissance Platoon fires a M4a1 carbine at a target on the deck of USS Bataan, 2011.
When deployed with a MEU, the Force Recon Platoon (FRP) is organized as part of the MEU Command Element.
The FRP carries out deep reconnaissance mission, reporting to the MEU commander.
The platoon also provides the assault / direct action element of a MEU's Maritime Raid Force (MRF).
A typical Force Recon Platoon consists of an HQ element and 6 x 6-man Reconnaissance Teams.
