The Force Recon Platoon (FRP) with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (15th MEU) Maritime Raid Force (MRF) board a Gas/Oil Platform during training.
The MRF is an MEU's organic special operations formation.
Modelled along the same lines as the now defunct Maritime Special Purpose Force (MSPF) concept, the Maritime Raid Force conducts Gas and Oil Platform Operations (GOPLAT) operations, maritime interdiction operations, counter-piracy and amphibious raids.
The tip of the MRF spear is the MEU's Force Recon Platoon detachment, supported by the Amphibious Recon Platoon and a Security Platoon from the Battalion Landing Team.
In an maritime interdiction operation, as shown above, the Force Recon Platoon will board the objective, coming up from small boats and/or fast-roping from helicopters, and secure key parts of the structure, while other MRF elements secure the rest.
Scout Snipers in helicopters will often circle above to provide over watch.
