A Marine with 26th MEU's Force Recon Platoon, Maritime Raid Force, covers his sector as the rigid-hull inflatable boat (RHIB) carrying his team approaches the target vessel during a maritime interdiction operation (MIO) training mission.
The Maritime Interdiction Operation role includes Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) missions against compliant and non-compliant vessels and the capture/recapture of maritime facilities such as gas platforms and oil terminals.
When on the float, the MEU's Maritime Raid Force (MRF) are roled with MIO, with the Force Recon Platoon providing the tip of the MRF spear.
