Ranger Mortar Squad

Rangers with Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, set up a M224 mortar during task force training.
There are 2 3-man mortar squads in each Ranger rifle company Weapons Platoon Mortar Section.
Armed with the M224 60mm mortar, they provide the company's organic indirect fire support.
The mortar squads typically operate together as a section but may be attached to a platoon.
The M224 fires high explosive, smoke and illumination rounds.
It can be set up andf fired from a fixed postion, as seen here, by use of the M7 baseplate, or operated in hand-held mode using the M8 baseplate.
