Operators with Noblesville Indiana's Police Department's Emergency Services Unit (ESU) train in close quarters combat techniques at Live Fire Shoot House at the Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center in Edinburgh, Indiana, 2010.

Novelsville's ESU was established in 2002 in response to the 9/11 attacks and a rise in school shootings at the national level.

Like other SWAT units, the ESU consists of select Police Officers trained to deal with scenarios such as barricaded suspects, hostage taking, active shooters, terrorist attacks and dignitary protection.

The unit includes an entry element and sniper element.

The ESU trains and works closely with the Crisis Negotiations Unit (CNT) in order to resolve incidents peacefully.

Weapons employed by the Noblesville ESU entry elements include AR-15 carbines and Glock 22 .

40S&W pistols.

Snipers use bolt-action rifles based on the Remington 700 action.
