Desert Patrol Vehicle (DPV)
The Desert Patrol Vehicle (DPV) is a 3-man dune buggy-style vehicle used for long range desert operations. The primary users of the DPV are the SEALs (SEAL team 3), although Delta Force has also been known to employ the DPV. The DPV has largely been replaced by the so-called Light Strike Vehicle (LSV), which is an armored upgrade of the DPV.
DPVs are used for:
- long range reconnaissance
- deep strike missions
The DPV has the following features:
- good mobility over rough ground
- can be readily transported by helicopter (Chinook / CH-53 Super Stallion)
DPVs feature a set of mounts onto which various weapons can be fitted. These include:
- M2 .50 machine guns
- M240 7.62mm belt-fed machine guns
- MK19/MK47 40mm grenade launchers
- M249 SAW 5.56mm machine guns
