M40a5 Sniper Rifle
The M40a5 is a variant of the M40 family of rifles. Like the M40a3 it is based on the Remington 700 short action and is a 7.62mmx51mm bolt-action rifle. The M40a5 joined the M40a3 in service with the USMC in January 2009.

A US Marine fires a M40A5 sniper rifle. The M40A5 is typically mounted with Schmidt & Bender 3-12× 50 Police Marksman II LP rifle scope. A DD Ross 30 minute-of-angle lugged Picatinny rail allows for the mounting of the main scope while a MIL-STD-1913 rail forward of the main scope allows for the mounting of night vision scopes such as the AN/PVS-22 Universal Night Sight.
