A Marine Corps Scout Sniper with 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (24 MEU) peers through the scope of his M40 sniper rifle abaord USS Nassau (LHA 4).
When supporting ship-boarding operations by units such as the Maritime Raid Force (MRF), Marine Scout Snipers may be deployed to provide overwatch from the deck of a US Navy ship and / or a helicopter with the MEU's aviation combat element.
Shooting from an unstable platform such as a ship's deck or helicopter requires a high level of skill and concentration.
