24th MEU - Maritime Raid Force

Marines of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit's (MEU) Maritime Raid Force (MRF) move tactically down a flight of steps on a ship's deck during Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) training.

The 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit is a Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) based out of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Its mission stated mission is to "Provide geographic combatant commanders with a forward-deployed, rapid-response force capable of conducting conventional amphibious and selected maritime special operations at night or under adverse weather conditions from the sea, by surface and/or by air while under communications and electronics restrictions.

"

The 24th MEU's Maritime Raid Force is drawn from the 2d Reconnaissance Battalion.

It is comprised of Force Reconnaissance Marines, Battalion Reconnaissance Marines, Scout Snipers and other elements working in concert to provide the 24th MEU's in-house Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) capability.
