The Commando II is the newest member of Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC)'s fleet of special ops transport and tanker aircraft.
The MC-130J Commando II will replace AFSOC's ageing inventory of MC-130E and MC-130P aircraft, with the first MC-130J becoming operational in 2012.
Built specifically for special oeprations, the MC-130J boasts improved engines and propellors, more powerful electrical generators and an integrated digital cockpit with multiple multi-function displays.
