A CV-22 Osprey fires flares, used to confuse incoming heat-seeking missiles, during testing.
Whilst carrying defences against missiles, critics of the Osprey have pointed out that the unarmed aircraft is vulnerable to anti-aircraft fire at low level, especially during landing / takeoff.
The Air Force has responded by claiming that the Osprey uses its speed and high rate of climb to minimize its time beneath the ant-aircraft umbrella.
