A United States Army Special Operations Forces (ARSOF) soldier takes aim with a SCAR-H PR (Precision Rifle) during marksmanship training in Khost district, Khost province, Jan.
7, 2013.
The SCAR-H PR is a variant of the 7.62mm x 51mm SCAR-H family of rifles made by FN Herstal.
The PR is designed to be more aqccurate than the MK-17 Mod 0 battle rifle, with a 20 inch heavy barrel and match type 2-stage trigger module.
The weapon features an extended top rail which can accomodate the in-line mounting of a night sight in front of a day scope.
This ARSOF operator's SCAR-H PR is fitted with a Bushnell HDMR 3.
5x21x50 scope, AAC SCAR-H SD suppressor, AN/PEQ-15 laser, the buttstock from a MK20 SSR and an angled foregrip.
The angled foregrip is so-shaped in order to create a more natural hold on the weapon than a standard vertical grip.
With the hand in the resulting 'supination' position, the shooter uses his supination muscles to drive the gun, making for better control than when using a traditional grip.
