A Ranger anti-tank team with Weapons Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment move forward during a Task Force Training exercise, January 2014.
Note the Carl Gustav 84mm recoilless rifle, also known as the Ranger Anti-tank Weapons System (RAWS), being carried by the rear-most Ranger.
The Cart Gustav is known as 'the goose' and so an anti-tank team armed with the weapon system are known as a 'goose team'.
The anti-tank team is a 2-man element consisting of a gunner and assistant gunner.
There are 3 such teams in each Ranger rifle company weapons platoon anti-armor section.
The teams may operate together as a section or attach to a rifle platoon.
The anti-tank team employs the unguided 84mm RAWS or the guided FGM-148 Javelin missile.
The Ranger Regiment is a light infantry formation and as such has a limited anti-armor capability.
Aside from the 3 anti-armor sections available to each company via the AT-Teams, each Ranger is trained in the use of disposable rocket launchers such as the 84mm M136 and the 66mm M72 LAW.
