Vintage (1998) photo showing Navy SEALs with SEAL Team one in training.
The foremost SEAL is using a Nikon/Kodak DCS 425 underwater camera.
The DCS 425 was a digital single-lense reflex (DSLR) camera that could be used down to an underwater depth of 100 meters.
They were manufactured for US government use by Kodak's Commercial & Government Systems division.
Until the use of digital cameras, photos taken by SEALs on reconnaissance operations would have to be developed back at base before being disseminated into the intelligence / command chain.
Digital photos, however, can be uploaded directly from the field via secure data link.
In the case of the DCS 425, this would most likely have been done by transferring the files via a portable computer linked to a communications device such as a satellite radio.
