United States Air Force counter-snipers with the 506th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron's Close Precision Engagement Team (CEPT), or 'Tiger Team', keep watch for enemy activity while stationed in Kirkuk Air Base, Iraq, 2007.
Tiger Teams are highly trained shooter / spotter pairs who carry out counter-sniper, perimeter security, overwatch and reconnaissance operations in defense of air bases at home and around the world.
CEPTs, operating from concealed positions have neutralized insurgents planting IEDs or setting up mortar tubes.
To qualify as close-precision engagement sharpshooters, Security Force airmen are trained via a 19-day close precision engagement course (CPEC) taught by various counter-sniper schools, including Camp Joseph T. Robinson, Arkansas.
Training includes range estimation, stalking, advanced marksmanship skills, firing at moving targets, precision firing and intelligence gathering.
The shooter in the above photo is armed with a M24 7.62x51mm bolt-action rifle fitted with an AN/PVS-10 12. 2x day/night scope.
