U.S. Army Special Reaction Team - Respirators
Photo by Master SGT. Thomas Buettner
Wearing M40A1 respirators, soldiers with the U.S. Army's 759th Military Police Battalion Special Reaction Team (SRT) practise weapons drills during training at Fort Carson.
The foremost SRT operator has transitioned from his primary weapon, a M4 carbine, to his sidearm, a M9 Beretta 9mm pistol.
Being able to smoothly and rapidly switch from a weapon that has jammed or ran dry to a backup sidearm is an important skill for an SRT operator.
The M40A1 field protective mask is the standard gas mask for dismounted U.S. Army troops.
It protects the wearer against a range of chemical and biological agents.
This includes tear gas, which may be deployed for tactical advantage by the Special Reaction Team.
