MK 20 Mod 0 Sniper Support Rifle
The MK 20 Mod 0 Sniper Support Rifle is a semi-automatic medium sniper / designated marksman rifle chambered in 7.62mm x 51mm NATO. The 'support' part of the name refers to its intended use as spotter's weapon, complementing a sniper rifle in a 2-man sniper/spotter team. The SSR is reportedly in use with SOCOM units.
The SSR is essentially an accurized SCAR-H (MK 17 Mod O). Indeed, the MK 17 LB version of the MK17, with its 20 inch barrel, was designed as a sniper / designated marksman rifle. The SSR takes that design and tweaks it in a number of ways to make an improved sniper rifle.
Design features of the SSR include:
- non-folding precision stock with adjustable, elastomer-covered, sloped cheek rest
- extended receiver with 575mm of rail space for mounting in-line night vision / thermal devices in tandem with day optics
- strengthened barrel extension that reduces barrel whip and increases accuracy
- enhanced, modular trigger
The MK 20 Mod Sniper Support Rifle shares 60% parts commonality with MK 17 SCAR-H.
