Mk 14 Mod 0 Enhanced Battle Rifle
Based around the 7.62mm x 51mm M-14 rifle, the MK14 Mod 0 Enhanced Battle Rifle (EBR) has been fielded by US Navy SEALs, among others.
The SEALs had been using the venerable M-14 for many years but needed a more compact and lightweight version. The result was the MK 14 Mod O Enhanced Battle Rifle. The EBR adds the following improvements to the its M-14 core:
- 18 inch barrel (M14 has 22 inch barrel)
- a telescopic stock
- a pistol grip for improved ergonomics
- new front sights
- a folding bi-pod
- a set of Pictatinny rails around the barrel allow for the mounting of various accessories such as scopes, torches, laser pointing systems etc
- lighter materials - the EBR is constucted from lightweight aircraft alloy

A MK 14 Mod 0 in the hands of a US Navy SEAL in Iraq. Note the Trijicon ACOG scope and PEQ-2 illuminator mounted on the SEAL's EBR. The stopping power of the EBR's 7.62mmx51mm round over the 5.56mmx45mm of the M4 carbine is one of the reasons the SEALs like this weapon.
