During the invasion of Iraq, elements of the 5th Special Forces Group (5th SFSG) had crossed up into the country from Kuwait.
ODAs, travelling in GMVs, supported by 'War Pig' supply trucks, carried out a range of tasks, including special reconnaissance.
ODA 554 were infiltratred onto the Wadi Al Khirr airfield by C-130s in order to get eyes on the city of Al Najaf, which had been by-passed by the 3rd Infantry Division on its rapid march North.
The Green Berets of ODA 554 worked with the 101st Airborne Division who entered Najaf on March 30th.
