Red Wolves - Fast Rope

Red Wolves Fast Roping

A HH-60H helicopter from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 84 hovers while U.S. special operations forces (SOF) fast-rope down to the ground during Exercise Eager Lion 2015 at the Prince Hashim Royal Air Base, Jordan, 2015.

Note the door gunner weidling a M240 7.62x51mm belt-fed medium machine gun.

Unlike some other S-60 variants, the HH-60H design does not have a forward cabin window for mounting a gun so one must be fitted in the doorway instead, making things a little more cramped during fast rope operations.

Army MH-60M Black Hawks, however, are able to mount weapons in the forward windows, leaving the cabin door free for troops to get in and out.

HSC 84, otherwise known as the Red Wolves, is a Naval Reserve Squadron that specialises in special operations support missions.
