The SWAT team is an element of the VBPD Operations Division's Special Operations Bureau.
The SWAT team resolves situations outside of the capability of normal police officers e.
g.
hostage rescue, high risk warrant searches etc.
The team consists of 1 lieutenant, 2 sergeants, and 17 officers.
Weapons employed by the VBPD include Bushmaster AR-15 short barrel rifles (5.56x45mm), S&W Model 5906 pistol (9mm) and Glock 17 pistol (9mm).
Tactical equipment includes flash-bnag stun grenades, ballistic shields and battering rams.
