Airmen with the 90th Security Forces Group (90th SFG), Tactical Response Force (TRF) provide 360° security during a launch facility recapture exercise November 2014.
The 90th SFG provides security for the 90th Missile Wing, an Intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) base with its HQ at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming and with assets spread out over a 9,600 square mile area that spans 3 states.
The Tactical Response Force is the 90th SFG's in-house SWAT team.
Their role is to carry out security operations outside the scope and capabilities of the regular SFG elements.
This role includes recapturing nuclear missile launch facilities from hostile forces.
They are trained to deploy by armored vehicle and helicopter in order to surround, recapture and hold any of the multiple launch facilities, missile alert facilities, Minuteman III ICBM silos and other structures present across the 90th Missile Wing's sprawling 9,600 square-mile complex.
The TRF operator pictured above is wearing a TCI Liberator II headset which acts as both a communications headset and hearing protection.
His unloaded M4 carbine is fitted with a Trijicon ACOG sight and a AN/PEQ-15 Advanced Target Pointer Illuminator Aiming Light (ATPIAL).
