Combat Controller in Afghanistan
U.S. Air Force photo by Staff SGT. Jeremy T. Lock
A USAF Combat Controller (CCT) with the pictured in Afghanistan.
CCTs are special operations forces under the umbrella of Air Force Special Operationas Command (AFSOC).
They typically deploy intergrated into other special operations units such as Army Special Forces or Navy SEALs.
Their role is to act as the SOF team's link to US or allied air units, either calling in aircraft for an air strike, guiding in a helicopter for an extraction or co-ordinating the air drop of men and supplies.
